Biofiltration Areas
Our multiple biofiltration installations were funded by a large grant from the Great Lakes Protection Fund, in partnership with Wayne State University. This project was designed to develop microplastic sensing technology and show the necessary mitigation effort needed to protect our watershed from plastic pollution. Reroot is helping to communicate the overbearing issue of microplastic pollution to the community. We are assessing green infrastructure’s potential to remove plastics from stormwater systems, which are a large contributor to microplastics in the environment and water system. The installation will remove up to 60% of stormwater runoff from the neighborhood which decreases pressure on sewer system processing. This, in turn, could reduce the amount of stormwater treatment needed and help lower water bills in the community.
